Glen Leu Farmstay is located in Sumbuk, a sleepy hamlet in South Sikkim that’s just 100 km (or a 3-hour drive) from Siliguri, West Bengal, and a 40-minute drive from Namchi, Sikkim’s second-largest town. We are a family-run property and have lovingly built this peaceful haven for those seeking to escape the stresses of city life and experience living on a farm, or simply enjoy an outdoor getaway with family and friends.
The village, tucked into the mountain slope, with countless birds, and butterflies and in close proximity to the Greater Rangit River and Kitam Bird Sanctuary, is an idyllic vacation destination, and a haven for bird watchers.
Glen Leu Farmstay is named after “Glen Leu Farm”, a nursery established by our family in 1933. It reflects the ambiance of a typical Sikkimese village and farm set in 15 acres of lush pasture land. The Farmstay is nestled inside a 3-acre property which includes an orchard with orange groves, avocado trees, banana plants, guava, grapefruit and pear trees, a very old mango tree, and mulberry trees.
Our two bamboo cottages have been designed utilizing traditional design principles with a modern aesthetic. Bamboo as a building material is a strong, as well as a sustainable option. It can be harvested within three to five years of planting and has a high compressive strength that can resist lateral forces.
Each cottage is a single unit on bamboo stilts and has been built using bamboo and timber sourced from the property itself. The walls were built using the “ikra” technique – a knitted bamboo structure plastered with mud.
Additionally, the property also has a cozy residential space that houses two comfortable bedrooms with attached bathrooms.
